The unbreakable bottle

Allied Domecq were looking to change a traditional glass bottle to a PET bottle, the big challenge being to ensure that it still looked like the traditional glass bottle and continued to hold strong appeal to the consumer when in the hand. Starting with the Canadian Club brand, the potential was far broader to embrace Allied Domecq’s other brands including Kahlua, Long Johns and Beefeater. pi conducted a comprehensive audit of the bottle production and filling operation of Canadian Club to assess opportunities for cost reduction. pi’s ensuing work then led to the reduction of the 1.75l glass bottle by over 1kg down to 140g PET preform and a reduced footprint for pallet optimization. The finished design not only assisted with innovative development for Canadian Club but brought massive production cost savings when applied across the brand portfolio and drastically reduced breakages in transportation.
